Immaculate Conception's Caring for Creation Team invites you to respond in faith to a warming world.

The team's mission is to inspire the IC parish community at this critical time to pray faithfully for our common home, converse respectfully on climate change issues/ challenges, and act responsibly in care and respect for God’s creation.

“[St. Francis of Assisi] lived in simplicity and in wonderful harmony with God, with others, with nature and with himself. He shows us just how inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace.” (Laudato Si, 10)

Here are some ideas for a simpler way to live:

  1. Buy from a thrift shop

  2. Donate to a thrift shop

  3. Instead of takeout, eat at home

  4. Ask yourself if you really need it

  5. Plant a vegetable garden

  6. Consider zero-waste versions of commonly purchased products. Limit your participation in throwaway culture by opting for laundry strips or powder, beeswax food wrap, cotton or bamboo paper towel, reusable coffee filters, cloth shopping bags and more. What ways can you think of?

  7. Spend time outdoors walking, running, or just sitting-- in the spirit of St. Francis, praising God for each of His creatures, for the goodness and beauty of all He has made.

  8. Encourage a friend to join you in awareness and action.

  9. Pray for the planet
