Faith Voices for Jefferson City
(formerly Jefferson City Communities Uniting)
Faith Voices for Jefferson City (formerly Jefferson City Communities Uniting) is "an interfaith collaborative, coordinated group of clergy and lay leaders who work together to: identify areas of common concern and then strive to address those concerns through a united community voice." They are people of faith driven by a common mission. Faith Voices of Jefferson City meets monthly at various locations.
Faith Voices for Jefferson City held it's Founding Convention, "Claim the Dream", on Thursday, Jan 23, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Quinn Chapel AME Church at 415 Lafayette Street. There were approximately 320 people in attendance, with 15-20 of them being IC parishioners! More than 26 churches and 7 businesses were represented. Bishop Gaydos delivered a keynote address emphasizing the seven key themes of Catholic social teaching, of which the foundation is the life and dignity of the human person. Gov. Jay Nixon and Rep. Jay Barnes also spoke. At this time, the group is primarily focusing on Medicaid expansion, creation of a Transit Advisory Commission in Jefferson City, and promoting the the statewide Early Voting Initiative.
