Pro-Life Committee

“We proclaim that human life is a precious gift from God; that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities toward God, self and others; and that society, through its laws and social institutions, must protect and nurture human life at every stage of its existence.”

– United State Catholic Conference of Bishops

Below is a brief listing of several current and upcoming Pro-Life Committee activities and issues. The Pro-Life Committee at Immaculate Conception Parish encourages and invites all members of our parish community to participate with us in support of human life. For further information about the Pro-Life Committee or the activities and issues below, you are invited to contact Pro-Life Committee Chairman Tom Fennessey at 573-893-5989.

Join the Pro-Life Committee in Forty Days for Life throughout Lent. Every Saturday from February 25th through April 1st, we spend an hour in prayer in front of Planned Parenthood in Columbia, Missouri. On those mornings, we meet behind the rectory to carpool at 9 AM and return to the same location by 12 PM. We invite each member of our parish community to consider joining us on one or more of those Saturday mornings. Please call Tom for carpool arrangements or more info.

On Good Friday, we remember all the victims of abortion—the children lost, the mothers wounded, the communities blighted—in a solemn, ecumenical "Way of the Cross for Victims of Abortion" prayer service on Friday, April 7 at 10 am on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood in Columbia (711 N Providence Rd). For more Info, contact Kathy Join us as we pray for healing for the victims of abortion and for an end to this injustice in our land.

Our 19 students and 11 adults took a bus trip to attend the National March for Life in Washington, D.C., from January 18-20, 2023.

State & Federal Tax Benefits for Supporting Pro-Life Organizations

Are you interested in donating to support local Pro-Life organizations and getting a state tax credit for 70% of your donation ($100 minimum)? If so, there are several local organizations such as Birthright, Pregnancy Help Center, and St Raymond’s Society (see descriptions below) who would be willing to talk with you about doing so. Additionally, you may also be interested in talking with them about other federal and state tax benefits associated with donating part or all of a Required Minimum Distribution from an Individual Retirement Account. Your tax advisor can give you further information regarding your specific situation and the above donation options.

The Gospel of Life:  A brief summary

The prophetic papal encyclical Evangelium vitae (The Gospel of Life) was written by Pope St. John Paul II in 1995 to reaffirm the value and inviolability of every human life and to appeal to all people to respect, protect, love, and serve every human life.
