Pastoral/Parish Planning Process

A planning initiative is beginning and will continue in our dioceses and here at Immaculate Conception for the next few years. Pope Francis and our Bishop Shawn McKnight have placed a new and renewed emphasis on parish and parish life. The goal is for each parish, in its own way, to be a Stewardship Parish, giving back to God of our whole selves.

There are three areas of emphasis in making parishes as the center of Catholic life:

  1. Parish as a center of charity and mercy. As in the days of the Roman Empire, people were attracted to Jesus by the way early Christians not only cared for each other but reached out to those who were non-believers. We are called to be the heart and hands of Jesus by loving not only our own parishioners but all people in our parish area.
  2. The co-responsibility of laity and clergy. We, laity and clergy, each share a part in making our parish a vibrant expression of Jesus’ love. And in inviting others to know Jesus.
  3. A stewardship spirituality rooted in gratitude for God’s blessings. We give of ourselves, not out of obligation, but out of the realization that everything comes from God and we have a need built within us to give back.
